Conners CBRS DSM-5 Scoring Update

The Conners Comprehensive Behavior Rating Scales™ (Conners CBRS™) has been updated to provide a new scoring option for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition™ (DSM-5™) Symptom Scales.

The Conners CBRS now has the following two scoring options for Scoring Software:

Conners 3 Rating Scale Interpretation

  1. DSM-IV-TR®: DSM Symptom Scale is scored based on diagnostic criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fourth Edition Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR).
  2. DSM-5: DSM Symptom Scale is scored based on diagnostic criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (DSM-5).

Scoring Software users can download the software by clicking on “Check for Updates” under the Help menu within the Scoring Software. The MHS Online Assessment Center system will be updated automatically. After the updates have been installed, users will have the option to choose to score with the DSM-IV-TR or DSM-5 criteria.

Complete details regarding the Conners CBRS DSM-5 scoring option are available via the Conners CBRS DSM-5 Update: Conners CBRS DSM-5 Supplement.

Important refinements have been made to the Conners CBRS including: (1) Updated Validity scale guidelines with new language to better reflect the intent of the scales; (2) Refined T-score cutoff categories and category descriptions; (3) The Aggressive Behaviors scale name change to Defiant/Aggressive Behaviors in order to better reflect the item content; (4) Refined scoring procedure for the Violence Potential scale, and the scale name change to Violence Potential Indicator; and (5) Improved sensitivity for Other Clinical Indicator alerts.

Product Resources
Manual

Based on the solid findings and key elements of its predecessor, the Conners’ Rating Scales-Revised (CRS-R™), the Conners 3 has a greater focus on ADHD and associated features.

Conners 3

Benefits

  • Obtain refined focus on ADHD in school-age children with a new age range.
  • Address comorbid disorders such as oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder.
  • Identify children with clinical symptoms in educational settings.
  • Plan and monitor intervention with step-by-step guidance.
  • Choose full-length or short version options for each parent, teacher, and self-report form.

Features

Conners 3 full-length forms include new and innovative features:

  • Three new validity scales — Positive Impression, Negative Impression, and Inconsistency Index — for increased confidence in the informant’s response.
  • DSM-IV-TR™ symptom scales for ADHD and all informants measuring oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder.
  • Severe conduct critical items (e.g., weapon use, fire starting, etc.) for identification of youths who require immediate attention and intervention.
  • Screener items for both anxiety and depression.
  • Impairment questions to measure impact on a child’s life at home, school, and with friends.
  • Updated normative data based on the 2000 U.S. census data. Separate norms are provided for males and females in one-year intervals (17- and 18-year old norms are grouped together).

Scoring & Reporting

There are four scoring and reporting options for Conners 3.

Conners 3 Full-Length Forms

The full-length form is used as part of the diagnostic process through direct links to the DSM-IV-TR™. The parent form and the self-report form include 99 items. Profile sheets are included in the QuikScore package and convert raw data scores to T-scores, providing clear and easily understood results graph.

Conners 3 Short Forms

Used for screening large groups, repeated administrations, or when time is limited, the short form provides the strongest items from the Conners 3 scales. It consists of 45 items in the parent forms, 41 items in the teacher forms, and 41 items for the self-report forms.

Conners 3 ADHD Index

Used for screening large groups, repeated administrations, or when time is limited, Conners 3 ADHD Index (Conners 3AI) includes 10 items taken from the Conners 3 full-length form.

Conners 3 Global Index

The Conners 3 Global Index (Conners 3GI™) is a fast and effective measure of general psychopathology. It includes the 10 best predictive items from CRS–R™ parent and teacher rating scales.

Conners 3GI and Conners 3AI are available as separate kits with additional forms sold separately. The Conners 3GI and Conners 3AI indices are included in the Full Form version of the Conners 3.
