Course Description
Topics:
- Introduction to surface equipment required to deploy coiled tubing during field operations
- Basic understanding of coiled tubing pre-job modeling and fatigue tracking - and why it’s important
- Challenges associated with use of coiled tubing on extended-reach wells and techniques for addressing those challenges
- Coiled tubing modeling software will be utilized to identify and address potential pre-job design issues
This introductory course will provide an understanding of the surface equipment and key job design parameters required for successful coiled tubing field operations.

Why Attend
The course will provide participants with a basic knowledge of coiled tubing operations and the equipment utilized to deploy it in the field. It will highlight key pre- job design parameters required for successful field operations. Participants will also have the opportunity to utilize coiled tubing modeling software during the course to better understand the impact of changing field job parameters on the outcome of the field operation.

Engineers and others with six months or less experience that are involved in the design of coiled tubing equipment or use of coiled tubing field services.
Special Requirements
Laptop PC (Windows™ operating system) with pre-installed coiled tubing modeling software. Course participants will be provided with modeling software download instructions prior to the course. Basic knowledge of well completion/workover techniques will be beneficial.

Ed Smalley has more than 35 years of oilfield experience, including assignments in new product development, field operations, sales, and management. His areas of expertise include coiled tubing, formation evaluation, coalbed methane, hydraulic fracturing, and commercialization of emerging technology.
He started his career with Schlumberger where he held various positions of increasing responsibility in sales and operations. Mr. Smalley then joined Gas Technology Institute as Director of E&P Business Development, where he spearheaded the commercial launch of more than 60 new E&P products.
He has been with NOV CTES in Conroe, TX, for the past 12 years where he serves as General Manager, responsible for the overall management of the organization. NOV CTES is a provider of leading-edge downhole modeling software and advanced measuring devices that support the coiled tubing, wireline, and drilling segments of the industry. Mr. Smalley holds a B.S. Engineering degree from Kansas State University and has published numerous SPE papers. He is an active member of SPE, ICoTA, and SPWLA.
Mr. Smalley has also provided commercial coiled tubing training courses for the past decade and has also co-authored and/or presented more than 10 published SPE technical papers.
Deep High Capacity Coiled Tubing
Copper Tip is excited to add to our fleet a brand new deep high capacity conventional coiled tubing unit. This unit is equipped with a Hydra Rig HR-6100 Injector – designed to handle CT sizes from 1-1/2” OD through 3-1/2” OD. It is designed for operation with both open and closed loop hydraulic systems. It is capable of up to 100,000 lbs continuous pull capacity at 4,600 psi. Additionally, the unit is able to hold up to 7,500m of 2-3/8” OD coiled tubing.
