When i start my computer, i recieve a 'ERROR: Machine type and serial no. Is invalid' and i hear a beep sound from the CPU at the same time.
This is what I'm shown for about 3 sec before normal boot starts. It's one big annoyance on my otherwise perfect X230.
Google tells you need to enter your serial number manually using Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Diskette tool which they don't distribute to consumers. I though got my hands on the latest version 1.89 through different forums. It does allow you to create a USB FDD to boot from. I created USB but it doesn't boot. When I create bootable USB HDD instead with NetBootin it does boot and tool fires up. But it doesn't perform it's function because its expecting an FDD.
Anyone else having faced this error? How did you got around it? And any tips on creating a bootable USB FDD...
Thanks for your time.
Serial Number Idm
I have a 10 month old W510, Window 7 Professional, Intel i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1600ghz, 8g ram. I have no trouble with it at all. This morning when I turned in on (cold start) I received the following errors in this order:
2200: Machine Type and Serial Number are Invalid.
0187: EAIA Data Access Error.
I am at a loss to explain it. I turned the machine on and off about 3 times, each time getting the same error. I then used another machine to start researching the errors, came back to the Thinkpad and turned it on and it started like nothing happened before. Windows started fine, no indications of issues. I'm not sure if I received the 0187 because of the 2200 happening first (they both came up each of the 3 times).
Any ideas what might have caused this? Also, I believe Windows keeps logs somewhere, but I don't know how to access them. Any advice on how to get the logs and read them would be helpful.
Thanks!
